When you register on Shehnai, we collect information you provide directly: name, date of birth, gender, email address, mobile number, educational background, profession, family details, and partner preferences. We also collect photos you upload and communications you send through the platform. We automatically collect technical data such as IP address, browser type, and usage patterns to improve our service.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your information is used to create and display your profile to potential matches, provide personalised match suggestions, send notifications about interests and messages, process membership payments, improve our platform and services, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. Profile Visibility
Your profile is visible to registered members of Shehnai. Contact details (phone number, email, address) are only revealed to members who have an active paid membership and choose to view your contact information. You can deactivate your profile at any time from Account Settings, which immediately hides it from search results.
4. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption of sensitive data, secure HTTPS connections, and access controls. Passwords are stored using strong cryptographic hashing (Argon2id). Photos are stored on secure cloud storage with private access controls. While we take every precaution, no system is 100% secure and we encourage you to use a strong unique password.
5. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and analyse usage patterns. Session cookies are essential for the platform to function. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies may affect platform functionality.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services: Razorpay for payment processing (subject to their privacy policy), AWS/Cloudflare for file storage, and SMS providers for OTP delivery. These services have their own privacy policies and we encourage you to review them.
7. Your Rights

8. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you deactivate your account, your profile is hidden but data is retained for 90 days to allow reactivation. After permanent deletion, data is removed from our systems within 30 days, except where legally required to retain it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or a notice on the platform. Continued use of Shehnai after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
